Renewable energy projects to be implemented at ZCMC

Renewable energy projects to be implemented at ZCMC

ArmInfo.  On February 5, a quadripartite memorandum was signed at the Ministry of Environment of Armenia between the Ministry of Environment, the Ministry of Territorial  Administration and Infrastructure, the Japanese company Komaihaltec  Inc., and Zangezur Copper and Molybdenum Combine (ZCMC) CJSC. This  was reported by the Zangezur Copper and Molybdenum Combine press  service.

As part of the project, Zangezur Copper and Molybdenum Combine CJSC  will collaborate with the Japanese company Komaihaltec Inc. to  explore the possibility of creating a closed-loop hybrid energy  system powered by wind energy for ZCMC's internal needs on the  company's premises.

The goal of the initiative is to ensure the production and use of  renewable energy in various areas of ZCMC's operations, contributing  to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions and increased energy  efficiency.

Sergo Atanesyan, Secretary General of the Ministry of Environment,  welcomed the parties and emphasized the importance of signing the  Memorandum of Understanding, which is in line with environmental  protection and climate policy priorities.

Vardan Janyan, First Deputy General Director of ZCMC, explained that  the plant has long placed various renewable energy projects at the  core of its development and modernization: "Solar power plants have  already been installed in several communities adjacent to ZMMK as  part of the company's efforts to meet their energy needs. The company  also plans to implement a solar power plant project for its own  needs.  Armenia has enormous potential in the renewable energy  sector, as well as in the mining industry. The joint program of the  Armenian government, the Japanese company Komaihaltec Inc., and ZCMC  underscores the priority this sector places on the Armenian  government's agenda and its particular importance for business.  International cooperation opens new opportunities and horizons for  Armenia in the direction of energy independence and environmental  sustainability."

The Republic of Armenia has adopted a low-carbon development strategy  until 2050, and this project could become an example of successfully  combining industrial development and climate responsibility. The  parties hope that this cooperation will be effective and will  contribute to the implementation of best international practices.

As a reminder, Zangezur Copper Molybdenum Combine (ZCMC) is the  largest mining company in Armenia. The plant operates the Kajaran  copper-molybdenum deposit. The plant's ore supply is approximately  150 years. The plant produces molybdenum and copper concentrates.  Molybdenum concentrate contains 50% molybdenum, and the copper  content in copper concentrate is at least 15%. The plant's annual  production volume is approximately 22 million tons of ore. ZCMC's  share of global molybdenum production is approximately 3.8%.

Komaihaltec Inc. is a major Japanese industrial company specializing  in the design and construction of infrastructure facilities, as well  as renewable energy solutions, including the development and  installation of wind turbines and solar energy systems. As of January  2026, the company's market capitalization was approximately 9.35  billion yen, revenue was approximately 34.73 billion yen, and net  profit was 1.60 billion yen.
