Chinese ambassador on new impetus to Armenian-Chinese economic ties  and practical cooperation in 2025

ArmInfo. In 2025, economic ties, practical cooperation, cultural exchanges, and friendship between the peoples of Armenia and China received new impetus for  development. This was stated by Chinese Ambassador to Armenia Li  Xinwei at a gala reception at the Chinese Embassy in Yerevan on the  occasion of the Spring Festival - Chinese New Year.

The Chinese Ambassador noted that 2025 was an important year for Armenia, which  achieved success in various areas, including economic and social  development, as well as the strengthening of international relations.   The year, Li Xinwei noted, was particularly significant for  Armenian-Chinese relations. In this regard, he recalled that Armenian  Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan visited China on September 3, 2025, to  participate in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit and  military parade. During this visit, the Chinese ambassador added, a  historic meeting was held with Chinese President Xi Jinping, at which  both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to developing military  partnership, ushering in a new era in relations between the two  countries.

"At the same time, economic ties, practical cooperation, cultural  exchanges, and friendship between the peoples of Armenia and China  have received new impetus. The North-South International Transport  Corridor is making progress, the frequency of flights from Urumqi to  Yerevan has increased to three times a week, and the number of  tourists from China to Armenia has increased by 40%. Armenian  interest in learning Chinese also continues to grow. The friendly  relations between the peoples of the two countries are growing  stronger," the diplomat added.

Li Xinwei recalled that the past year was particularly memorable for  him, as Armenia is his first country serving as ambassador, marking a  significant milestone in his professional career. "Last year, I  witnessed significant developments in the development of bilateral  relations between our countries. As ambassador, I am ready to work  with our partners to advance bilateral relations, promote practical  cooperation, and deepen the friendship between our peoples. Of  course, the embassy, as the home of the Chinese people, will always  be guided by the principle of 'people's diplomacy,' striving to  provide multifaceted support to our compatriots living in Armenia.  According to the Chinese calendar, 2026 is the Year of the Horse,  symbolizing goodness and progress. I wish our countries good fortune  and prosperity, as well as long- lasting Armenian-Chinese relations,"  the Chinese diplomat said.

The Chinese ambassador to Armenia also highlighted his country's  achievements over the past year, noting that 2025 will be a  particularly significant year for China. He recalled that under the  leadership of President Xi Jinping, the country has overcome numerous  difficulties and achieved significant successes that have attracted  worldwide attention. These include, the ambassador noted, the Fourth  Plenary Session of the 20th Central Committee of the Communist Party  of China, the successful completion of the 14th Five-Year Plan,  China's gross domestic product (GDP) growth, which has exceeded 140  trillion yuan (approximately 7.616 trillion drams - ed.), the 5%  economic growth target, and the strengthening of the country's  national strength.

"China's international influence also continues to grow. We solemnly  celebrated the victory in the War of Resistance Against Japanese  Aggression and the 80th anniversary of the victory in the World  Anti-Fascist War. Last year, China hosted a number of significant  events, including the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit  in Tianjin and the Global Women's Summit. Xi Jinping introduced the  Global Governance Initiative, which was an important contribution to  improving international governance. Last year, leaders from 18  countries, including France and the United Kingdom, visited China,  marking the beginning of a new wave of diplomatic activity," the  ambassador recalled.

Li Xinwei noted that despite the current instability and changes in  the world, China continues to prove itself as a great power guided by  the principles of justice and responsibility. This year, the Chinese  diplomat noted, China will unveil its 15th Five-Year Plan, and the  country's modernization will continue to progress, focusing on  inclusive development. "We are also ready to take on obligations and  act as a pillar of the universal order and international systems,  promoting peace and development," the diplomat concluded.

The event was attended by Armenian public and political figures,  cultural figures, diplomats from foreign countries accredited in the  republic, and media representatives. The Chinese Embassy prepared a  vibrant entertainment program for guests, introducing them to the  rich Chinese culture.

It is worth noting that, according to the Statistical Committee of  Armenia, foreign trade turnover between Armenia and China for  January-October 2025 exceeded $2.1 billion, with a year-on-year  decline of 9.1%.  Specifically, exports amounted to $570.9 million (a  42.2% year-on-year decline), while imports amounted to $1.6 billion  (a 15.3% year-on-year increase). China is among Armenia's top five  trading partners.
