ArmInfo. Deputy Minister of Economy of Armenia Narek Hovakimyan participated in the event marking the closing of the "Support to Quality Infrastructure in Armenia" program.
The program has been implemented by the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) since 2022 with funding from the European Union. Its goal is to assist the Armenian government in modernizing its metrology system and bringing it into line with international standards. The investment volume amounted to ?4.1 million.
During the program's implementation, Hovakimyan noted, extensive work was accomplished: four modern calibration laboratories were established in seven areas, three of which, with EU funding, received international recognition. "This allows for the testing and calibration of measuring equipment on-site in accordance with international standards, without the need to ship it abroad, which significantly saves time and resources," the Deputy Minister noted.
UNIDO is a specialized UN agency promoting sustainable industrial development, economic competitiveness, and innovation.
UNIDO has been operating in Armenia since the early 1990s, implementing programs aimed at industrial development, supporting small and medium-sized businesses, improving energy efficiency, introducing environmentally friendly technologies, and developing quality infrastructure. The organization provides technical assistance to government agencies and the private sector, including in the areas of standardization, metrology, and product certification.
One of the key areas of cooperation is the modernization of the technical regulation system and bringing it into line with international standards, which contributes to the expansion of the country's export opportunities and integration into global markets.
