
ArmInfo. A working group on increasing throughput capacity on the Armenian-Iranian border met in Yerevan, chaired by Armenian Deputy Minister of Economy Edgar Zakaryan and Iranian Deputy Minister of Roads and Urban Development Reza Akbari.
The participants discussed issues related to road tolls, the development of logistics infrastructure, and the operation of border checkpoints.
Edgar Zakaryan noted that the Armenian Ministry of Economy attaches great importance to further deepening trade and economic cooperation between Armenia and Iran, as well as diversifying logistics capabilities.
The Deputy Minister expressed hope that the modernization and technical re-equipment of border infrastructure will provide additional impetus for the growth of mutual trade turnover. It should be noted that, according to the Statistical Committee of the Republic of Armenia, foreign trade turnover between Armenia and Iran increased by 6.7% in January-April 2026, reaching $237.4 million. Exports, however, decreased by 20.7% to $25.1 million, while imports increased by 11.2% to $212.3 million.
